The Sussex Band of The Royal British Legion (Horsham)
Pat Ferris

Pat Ferris took up directorship of the Horsham RBL Band in April 1986 and has served continuously since.
He was formerly Band Sergeant Major of the Royal Hampshire Regiment, with whom he served the colours for 31 years starting as a 15-year-old band boy.
During his service he spent two years at the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall where he studied clarinet, saxophone and music theory.
For eight of the 31 years Pat carried out normal infantry duties, during which time he saw active service in Malaya, Borneo, Cyprus (UN Forces) and Northern Ireland. On completion of the eight years he returned to music duties with the unusual distinction of being a qualified instructor in "All arms drill" and "Jungle warfare!"
Pat now spends a large part of his time teaching clarinet, saxophone and music theory, whilst keeping his hand in as a playing musician in the Dance Band. He remains as dedicated to his music today as he was when he signed up at the "tender" age of 15
